Grace Episcopal Church, Elkins

Where All Are Welcome

Welcome!

Welcome to Grace Episcopal Church, located on the corner of John St. and Randolph Ave. in Elkins, West Virginia. Our small church, known throughout the town as the Red Door church, was established in 1901 and has been serving the community with worship and outreach ever since.

Our mission is to be active Christians in the world and give others the opportunity and support to grow in faith, love and service.  To lead us in this mission is the Rev. Fred Bird.

The Episcopal Church

The Episcopal Church strives to live in the message of Christ, where there are no outcasts and where all are welcome. Walking a middle way between Roman Catholicism and Protestant traditions, we are a sacramental and worship-oriented church that promotes thoughtful debate about what God is calling us to do and be, as followers of Christ.  The Episcopal Church is part of tradition steeped in history.  The familiar logo on the left speaks to that tradition.  The white field with the red cross is St. George's Cross, patron saint of the Church of England, the root of the Episcopal Church.  The nine miniature crosses on the blue field represent the nine dioceses that met in Philadelphia in 1789 to ratify the constitution of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America.  The small crosses are formed to represent St. Andrew's Cross, patron saint of the Scottish Episcopal Church who ordained Samuel Seabury as the first American Bishop in 1784.

Today the Episcopal Church is a part of the Anglican Communion, the worldwide communion having a basis in the Church of England.  Grace Church is a part of this communion numbering 72 million members.

Come worship with us!  All are welcome.

Sunday Worship

Our Sunday morning services take place at 9 a.m. We offer Holy Eucharist most Sundays of the month with an occasional Morning Prayer on the other Sunday. Our Montessori-style Sunday School takes place during the service (Sept.-June) and the children come to service to share the communion.  Sunday School is not currently in session.  We provide a nursery as needed.
